What are your hours of operation?

Creative Wood Floors is OPEN Monday-Friday 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., Saturday 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.. We are closed every Sunday and during all major holidays, and available for free phone quotes 7 days a week.

How long does refinishing a hardwood floor take?

That depends on the size of the project. Normally sanding & finishing is a three day process, but allow four in case the finish isn’t dry from one day to the next, depending upon weather conditions.

How long should I wait before walking on floors after refinishing?

Finished floors should be dried within 24 hours for walking and gently placing furniture(no dragging). Allow at least two weeks before placement of area rugs

Do I have to be out of the house?

NO, depending on your floor plan and rooms we are working on. You will not have access to the room/s for 8-10 hours while finish is drying.

Why are there dents in my floors?

Although the wood installed is,indeed, a hard wood, it can be dented by heavy objects such as heavy furniture, high heels, dragging furniture. To help prevent dings and dents, we recommend that you use floor protectors under your furniture and rugs in high traffic areas.

Will my house be covered in dust?

We use dustless sanding equipment. There is minimal dust but there may still be some minor cleanup for the homeowner.

How do I pick up a stain color when I’m refinishing my wood floors?

In order to achieve best results we recommend having a sample done at your home on the floor to be stained. This way you will find it easier if color blends with painting, natural light or furniture.

What kind of hardwoods can I place on a concrete sub floor?

If moisture conditions are acceptable, two of the most widely used applications would be engineered wood floors glued direct . With proper adhesives.

Floating floors are also available in the click system that require no gluing.

More traditional ¾” solid hardwoods on concrete can be accomplished with the addition of plywood sub floor, used as a nailing base over the concrete.

Can I put hardwood in my kitchen?

Hardwood is extremely durable and with minimal care will far outlast most floor covering. Kitchens are the focal point in many homes and hardwood will warm your kitchen, making all your guests feel right at home. By taking such precautions as cleaning spills as they occur, keeping rugs in high traffic areas such as in front of your sink, refrigerator, etc. Felt cushions on chair legs and using proper cleaning procedures, your floor should maintain its beauty for years to come.

Can you refinish floors that are covered with vinyl?

Yes. In some cases we had to remove 4 to 5 layers of vinyl floors to get to original wood floors. Most of the time original hardwood is in good condition and can be brought back to life.

Do you remove carpets and dispose them?

Yes and yes. We will carefully remove carpets, tex strips, nails, staples from areas that will be refinished. All carpets and debris will be disposed at our shop.

What is buffing and coating of wood floors?

This process involves buffing or screening your floors down and applying a coating of polyurethane. This process is only a surface treatment and will only address the dirt and scratches in the top layer of polyurethane. This means, taking a “buffing” machine, which is similar to a circular sanding machine and using a fine grit screen to “buff” the floors. The fine grit (150) loosens the top surface of the floors helping to remove dirt and superficial scratches. We vacuum the floors and tack rag (remove any fine dust) and then we apply a coating of polyurethane. This process takes about 1 day depending on the size and number of rooms.

Can you match the color of my existing wood floors with my new floors?

At Creative Wood Floors we put down samples for you to choose from. We make every effort to have floors match but inevitably with time even using the same color product there may be a slight difference. We have many stains and dyes we can use to replicate your desired color.

I have a black stain in my floor, will this sand off or do I have to replace it?

Each situation is different. If stain is not that deep and boards separation hasn’t occurred it will probably sand off. If boards separation has occurred it is as deep as it can get and replacement will be necessary. Either way is fixable.

What is the best wood floor in Wisconsin?

Over the years after installing and maintain numerous wood floors we find that oak is the most resistant to Wisconsin Climate( dry winters, humid summers) fallowed by maple and hickory. If an exotic floor is desired make sure your heating system is equipped with a humidifier and works properly and air conditioning running during hot, humid summer days.

Why install/refinish hardwood floors?

Hardwood floors can retain, or in many cases, even increase the value of your home. Hardwood floors also never go out of style or become outdated.
